About us:

The United Campus Workers of Alabama (UCWAL) at Auburn University is an inclusive union that believes in strength in numbers. We are organizing to get everyone who holds a job at the university involved in improving each other’s work situations on campus. In order to do that, we need to know what issues and concerns people have and we need to make sure everyone is represented.

Genuine representation is more urgent than ever before. On June 5, 2026, the Board of Trustees passed two policies: the "Board Policy on Academic Curriculum, Courses, Syllabi, and Core Educational Requirements" and the "Board Policy on Presidential Academic Advisory Council." These policies made significant changes to how Auburn is governed with little explanation to the Auburn community.

The first policy asserted authority over Auburn’s curriculum and mandated two new Core Curriculum courses without going through the usual academic process of review by faculty, undermining their position as subject-matter experts. The second policy dissolved Auburn’s University Senate and replaced it with a Presidential Academic Advisory Council, eliminating overnight the decades-old body which has had elected representatives to speak in an advisory capacity on major decisions that affect the university.

We, the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and community members–the Auburn Family that make this university run–do not stand for this.

We believe in shared governance.

We believe in faculty expertise driving decisions about curriculum.

We stand for a university that supports these basic principles.

We stand for Auburn.
